It's Recipe Thursday

Some of my fondest memories are of helping my mom mom (thats what I called my sweet grandmother) in the kitchen.  Today I am going to share with you one of her recipes.  Although it is not original to her I can remember making it with her on more than one occasion.
Nun's Cake
3 Cups sifted Swans Down Cake Flour
2 Teaspoons Calumet Baking Powder
1/4 Teaspoon Salt
1 Cup Butter
1 1/2 Cups Sugar
2 Eggs Unbeaten
3 Egg Yolks Unbeaten
3/4 Cup Milk
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
Sift flour measure add baking powder and salt and sift three times.  Cream butter, add sugar gradually and cream together till light and fluffy.  Add eggs and egg yolks one at a time beating well after each addition.  Add flour alternately with milk and flavoring.  Turn into greased pans lined with greased paper.  Bake in 350 degree oven one hour and fifteen minutes or until well done.
There you have it, simple and simply delicious.  I typed word for word her directions, so they may not make perfect sense to us, but they made perfect sense to her.
Happy Mother's Day!

Sounds like a nice basic cake. Eureka! It's so hard to find a nice, easy fool-proof recipe. Thank you.

Hi Lisa, thanks for such a nice post about my jewelry. I enjoy doing it so much. Your blog is coming right along. Your recipe looks sooo good... luv, gail

Hi Lisa,
Sift three times? That cake must have been so light. You must have trouble keeping it from hovering above the cake plate.
By the way, I miss you so much when you are not at Coffee Chat. You keep everything moving, and nice.
Thanks so much for all you do,
Theresa @ Cottage Violets
